Doesn’t it sound like a dream lifestyle to have the freedom and flexibility to wake up in a new city, country, or continent whenever you please and live life on your own terms?
A few years ago, it felt like a distant dream to us. We were unaware of its existence until we began our travels and encountered other digital nomads.
We have been and still are astounded by the innovative methods individuals discover for earning money online. Moreover, the most appealing aspect is that the process is becoming increasingly simpler.
Let’s dive right into it and present beginner-friendly digital nomad jobs that are accessible to almost anyone!
Freelance Writing
I might have a biased opinion, but freelance writing is undoubtedly one of the top jobs for digital nomads, provided that you have a passion for writing.
There are numerous types of digital nomad jobs available in the writing industry. However, in my opinion, the two types of freelance writing that suit the nomadic lifestyle best are copywriting and content writing, despite their notable differences. Simply put, copywriting involves writing with the intention to promote or sell something, such as a product, brand, service, or idea.
One example of writing is when a copywriter creates content for an Amazon product listing. Another type of writing is content writing, which is the work I do as a freelancer. Content writing involves producing article-style content for blog or website owners, similar to the content I am currently writing for you. The main purpose of content writing is not necessarily to sell, but rather to provide information, education, inspiration, or value.
Blogging
Blogging has brought about a complete transformation in our lives, granting us the freedom to work at our own convenience, regardless of location. By passionately writing about subjects close to our hearts, we are able to assist and engage with others.
Moreover, it enables us to sustain a nomadic lifestyle, which is a great advantage.
Doesn’t it seem too good to be true? Well, there’s a slight complication. Although setting up a blog is relatively simple, it is not as easy to transform it into a profitable venture.
Blogging is definitely not a way to quickly become wealthy. We have been blogging inconsistently for almost four years. However, it took us more than three years to reach a point where we can make a comfortable income from it.
However, it is not always the situation as I am aware of numerous bloggers who have begun earning at a much faster rate than that.
Initially, our issue lay in the lack of consistency. Nevertheless, by implementing the appropriate approach and mindset, it is achievable to monetize your blog within the initial year.
If you are willing to invest the time and effort into learning, starting a blog is completely achievable despite there being many factors to consider.
Teaching English
Teaching English online to Chinese students is a popular way for digital nomads to work and live abroad. It is considered one of the easiest entry jobs for this lifestyle. Personally, I know several individuals who use this job to support their digital nomad lifestyle, whether they are living in a van, enjoying the beaches of Mexico, or exploring Bali.
To become a Teacher or Course Instructor with companies like VIPKid, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree and two years of teaching experience are required. However, with apponly company PalFish, only a TESOL / TEFL certificate is needed for the same position. Working as an Online English Teacher with either of these companies can earn you up to $20-$25/hour or more.
Virtual Assistant
Becoming a Virtual Assistant (VA) is another suitable option for beginner digital nomads. In this role, your main responsibility is to support individuals (such as bloggers or entrepreneurs) by completing tasks associated with their businesses.
It is possible that you may already possess some of these skills from previous work experiences or internships, as they involve tasks such as handling administrative duties, arranging appointments, making phone calls, organizing the individual’s personal and work schedules, managing emails, and scheduling social media content.
The pay for VA jobs can vary, but it is possible to earn more than $20 per hour. Digital nomads can find many VA job postings on freelancing platforms like Upwork.com, Freelancer.com, etc.
Social Media Manager
A Social Media Manager, like a VA, is a fantastic occupation that permits digital nomads to work while traveling, requiring only an internet connection. When you fulfill the role of a Social Media Manager, your responsibility is to oversee and handle an individual’s social media platforms entirely.
SMM’s are typically hired by bloggers since they become too busy to handle all the small tasks of managing each social media platform once they grow. That’s where you would come in to assist in creating and planning content for various platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, etc.
If you possess both experience in social media and the ability to multitask, as well as the capability to closely collaborate with the blogger/employer, you have the potential to secure a position as a social media manager. This role would involve assisting with the creation of graphics and media, particularly for platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram. Starting out as a beginner, you could earn between $10-25 per hour, and for more advanced contracts that demand greater expertise and time, the pay could range from $30-70+ per hour.
Customer Service Representative
Similar to virtual assistants, an increasing number of businesses are hiring remote customer care teams.
